What Is It?
That's a tough question. The core offering of VeFoil is an electric, motorized, hydrofoil surfboard. Say that three times fast. The picture is one of our prototypes. Essentially, this board is connected to a wireless remote. When you pull the trigger, the engine powers you forward. When you get going fast enough, the hydrofoil on the bottom lifts the board into the air. It's a fun ride and one of the closest things you can get to a hover board.
Our system focuses on being largely DIY. It will ship as a kit that you assemble yourself. This brings the cost down considerably compared to other companies. Furthermore, our unique motor assembly is being built to be attached to a large variety of watercraft. Thus, giving you the ability to motorize any watercraft with our affordable design. Lastly, our remote will be one of the only waterproof, floating, and wireless remotes on the market.
What I Do
I got involved with VeFoil when Chris, the leader of the team was first looking for someone who could model and 3D print parts for the motor assembly. He found me on 3D Hubs where I was advertising my services. After some back and forth, I offered to join up with him since going back and forth through 3D Hubs would have been very expensive and slow. This ended up being the right choice because we have changed the design more times than I can count. We have filled boxed with prototypes that are now defunct. But, it has all been worth it. Early June of 2018, we had our first successful run. There is still much to do and I'm excited for creating new designs. Check out my blog here on the site to see updates on the project.
